A hand-carved wooden hummingbird captured mid-hover, beak angled downward as if mid-sip from an unseen flower — the moment of stillness within motion that defines the bird, held in solid wood. The carving is worked from a single piece, with the long slender beak, the implied flutter of the wings, and the small precise body all rendered in polished detail.

The base is raw parasite wood — known as jempinis or jempinis batu in Indonesia — which comes from trees that have been overgrown by parasitic vines, and the resulting timber carries the distinctive twisting grain, hollowed sections, and organic textures of that growth process. Because each base is shaped by the wood's own history, no two pieces are alike. The carving you see in the photograph is the carving you receive.

Few birds carry the symbolic weight of the hummingbird. In Aztec tradition the god Huitzilopochtli was associated with the hummingbird, and warriors who died in battle were said to return in their form; across Native American Southwestern traditions they signify joy, healing, love, and good luck; in contemporary symbolic gift culture the hummingbird has become an enduring emblem of joy, resilience, and lightness of spirit carried through difficult times. To give or own a hummingbird carving is to invoke some of that — small, quick, brightly determined, and far more substantial than its size suggests.

A piece like this works well in any setting that wants a small focal piece with movement and meaning — shelves, desks, windowsills, console tables, bedside surfaces — and lands particularly well as a memorial gift, a recovery gift, a birthday for a gardener or birdwatcher, or simply a thoughtful "thinking of you" piece. Compact, expressive, and quietly carrying significant cultural weight.

Hand-carved by Indonesian artisans. Small variations in finish, grain, and base form are part of what you receive.

Sacred Tool Care

To keep your spiritual tools in optimal condition, cleanse crystals regularly using running water (avoid for water-soluble stones like selenite), salt water soaks, burying in salt or earth, or smudging with sage or palo santo smoke. Condition leather items occasionally with natural leather cream to prevent cracking, and store away from direct sunlight and moisture. Clean singing bowls with a soft cloth or mild soap and water, avoiding harsh chemicals, and store on padded surfaces to protect their resonance.
